I support creative business owners in accomplishing their design dreams.
Wondering what the best WordPress recipe plugin for your food blog is? I get this question a lot, and with so many options to choose it’s easy to see why! To keep things simple, I’m going to focus on two top recipe plugins in this article: WP Recipe Maker and WP Tasty. They are both great options, so my goal is to help you decide which is best for your unique blog and business. Let’s dive in!
A recipe plugin for WordPress is a feature that you add to your blog that will allow you to add recipe cards inside your blog posts. Here are a few benefits of using a recipe plugin:
If you’re using Showit for your food blog, know that you can use recipe plugins! Since Showit uses WordPress for blogging, most WordPress recipe plugins will work with a Showit website. I’ve had clients use both of the plugins mentioned in this article, WP Recipe Maker and WP Tasty Recipes, with a Showit food blog.
WP Recipe Maker is an awesome WordPress recipe plugin that I’ve had several clients try! I recommend it for beginner food bloggers because it has a free plan with lots of essential features. You can also upgrade to one of their paid tiers for more functionality. The interface for building out recipe cards is straightforward, and the welcome video included with the plugin helps you learn how to use it! WP Recipe Maker recipe cards also follow SEO best practices.
Foodie Digital has a great blog post on how to use WP Recipe Maker properly, if you’d like to learn more!
The Tasty Recipes plugin by WP Tasty is well known for being used by top food bloggers like Sally’s Baking Addiction and Pinch of Yum. As far as functionality, the process of choosing a template and building out recipes is pretty similar to WP Recipe Maker. It’s easy to style a card and add in your recipe information, and there are tutorial videos. Unlike WP Recipe Maker, Tasty Recipes doesn’t offer a free plan. Their paid plans start at $49/month. This is why I mostly recommend it for bloggers who have publish new recipes frequently, have gotten some traction with their content, and are ready to invest in a plugin. Tasty Recipes also uses SEO best practices, and it has options for sharing affiliate links in recipe cards for monetization, too!
One huge plus of Tasty Recipes is that it can convert recipes from another recipe plugin! So, if you start with WP Recipe Maker or another supported plugin and switch to WP Tasty later, this will help with transferring the recipes over.
All of the WordPress recipe plugins currently on the market have similar features. WP Recipe Maker and WP Tasty are two popular options that I recommend because I can speak from experience having used them with clients. Honestly, the best option for you is the recipe plugin that you enjoy using, get good results from, and fits your budget. My clients usually prefer to try a couple different recipe plugins out to see which one they prefer! I encourage you to do the same. Happy blogging!
