A Young Entrepreneur’s Takeaways from the book Own Your Everyday

In this episode of the Creativity & Heart podcast, I’m sharing about the book Own Your Everyday by Jordan Lee Dooley. It’ll mostly be me sharing my biggest takeaways, and I’ll do my best not to share any spoilers! This book really resonated with me and I highly recommend it to anyone who’s struggling with knowing their purpose, mindset challenges like perfectionism/comparison/or disappointment, or if you just want to enjoy being present every day as you serve. What Surprised Me the Most

• Even though I enjoyed reading Jordan’s blog posts and following her on Instagram (she writes powerful captions!) I was reluctant to read another “self-help” book
• I attended the Creative Founders At-home Conference Experience this past Thursday through Sunday, and this book was our required reading before hand
• As soon as I started reading the introduction, I was surprised by how much I could relate to this book
• I’m about to share some of my biggest lessons in a minute, but one main thing that I realized right away was that there are common things that all women of all ages and backgrounds struggle with

Biggest Lessons I Learned:

• This is something that I have been learning for months now, but this book really emphasized it even more, and it’s that a big part of being a successful entrepreneur and enjoying life in general doesn’t have to do with what you know or what you accomplish, but rather having the right mindset
• I can live out my purpose, right here, right nows
• I often let the pressure to prove myself or people please affect how I show up
• Being aware of the negative thoughts will help you nip them in the bud and shift towards a more positive mindset
• There’s a difference between fixing the issues in our life and really working out the deeper insecurities that are causing them.

Favorite Quotes from Own Your Everyday

There were so many good ones to choose from (I highlighted everywhere in this book!), but here are a few powerful quotes that resonated with me:

“Some of the mind-sets I get stuck in include imposter syndrome, disappointment, shame, comparison, perfectionism, and distraction. When I operate from these places, I don’t love like I should. I don’t notice the divine moments God invites me into. I don’t work well but rather just work hard.” (pg. 5)

“Purpose has little to do with the job or role I have, the season I’m in, or the setting I occupy. Rather, it has everything to do with the significance or meaning that drives my life and what I bring to those specific situations.” (page 31)
