I support creative business owners in accomplishing their design dreams.
Hannah Paukstis did something brave: she followed her dream of starting a wedding & event planning business – during a pandemic. A Bird with a Plan started in January 2020, just a few months before “the world shut down.” But that didn’t stop Hannah from using 2020 as an opportunity to learn as much as she could and prepare for when things started to open up again. One of those actions that she took was contacting me in spring 2021 about professional branding and Showit website design.
When Hannah reached out to me, she already had a DIY site that she’d put a lot of work into. But she felt that in order to have a more professional presence, she wanted to work with a design pro. I remember her telling me on our discovery call that she’d taken her website as far as she could. While I don’t usually recommend getting a custom website design until you’re at least 2 years in business, Hannah seemed sure of the direction that she was going with her brand. So, we got her project on the calendar for October 2021!
Branding is the first thing I work on with clients on as part of my VIP Custom Design Experience. So, as soon as the project kicked-off, Hannah and I started developing her new brand visuals. This includes her color palette, fonts, and logo suite. She wanted her brand to feel intentional, welcoming, joyful, and organic. Hannah serves clients in the Pacific Northwest, and the outdoors are often central to events.
You can see the influence of the outdoors in the earth tones used for Hannah’s color palette. Green is a prominent color in Hannah’s color palette to reflect her commitment to eco sustainability, as well.
Before we started the project, Hannah decided to change her business name from A Bird with a Plan to Hummingbird Event Co. So, it was important to her that we include a bird in the visuals! I ended up finding inspiration from nature photography to sketch this hummingbird drinking from a flower. I love that when you combine it with the rectangle frame and fonts, it comes together as a primary logo that feels organic, yet polished.
The second piece of the design process is creating a custom website. I love using the Showit website builder because it gives me creative freedom during the design process. It’s also easy for my clients to use, should they need to make edits to their site moving forward.
Our main goals for Hannah’s site were to:
This table design is one of my favorite parts of this website! It makes it easy for Hannah’s clients to compare her wedding packages.
I am so thrilled with how Hannah’s branding and website turned out, and I’m even more excited that Hannah loves it! She shared:
“Working with Maya was an absolute joy. I was so impressed with how well she was able to turn my rambling thoughts and ideas into a cohesive and beautiful brand design. It was the perfect representation of my vision and my business’ mission, and I feel that anyone who stumbles across my website will get a sense of my brand immediately.
Maya was also responsive and patient with my many questions and thoughts, and willing to try out new ideas, which was incredibly helpful for me. I felt supported throughout the entire process and she did such an amazing job at explaining different features and aspects of my website with the videos she provided. She made the process both manageable and enjoyable – I am truly SO grateful that I had the chance to work with Maya. I cannot wait to launch my new website and brand design for the world to see!”
