THINKING ABOUT MAKING THE SWITCH?

What you should know about switching from another builder to Showit

Your Domain Name

Your Copywriting / Content

Your Blog Posts

Your Links

Your Online Presence

Your Domain Name

Your domain name is the address that leads people to your site
(ex: mayapalmerdesigns.com). You own the domain name you paid
for, and you’ll be able to keep it no matter what website builder you use.

Your Copywriting/Content

Copywriting, content, the “words on your website” - whatever you want to call it - you own it, and can transfer it from website to website. Doing so is as simple as copying and pasting your content into a Google Doc. Then, your website designer can copy and paste it into your new site’s layout.

Your Blog Posts

Just like with your website content, your blog posts can be transferred from one website to another. The awesome news is that the Showit support team is able to handle blog migration for you if you are transferring from a WordPress or Squarespace site! If you’re coming from another website builder, your website designer will have to manually transfer the blog posts.

Your Online Presence

In most cases, you’ll be able to leave your current site up and running while your new site is being built! This means that you won’t have to worry about having your website be unavailable while you are making the transition. In the event that we do need to take your old site down before we’re ready to launch the new one, we can put up a Coming Soon page.

LET’S TALK MONEY

Showit’s Pricing

While Showit isn’t the cheapest option out there (or the most expensive), I think it’s an excellent option for the quality you receive.

The good news is that with Showit, you can “choose your own adventure” - there’s more than one option for getting the website of your dreams!

SHOWIT’S SUBSCRIPTION PLANS

Showit's Subscription Plans

Like most website builders today, Showit requires users to purchase a subscription. Showit offers 3 tiers of pricing, with the ability to pay monthly, or for a year in full (with an annual discount).

The current monthly plans are:

additional costs to consider

Showit $24/mo

Best option if you just need a website, without a blog

Showit + Basic Blog $29/mo

Best option if you are a new business owner who needs a website and a blog, or if you only have a small blog

Showit + Advanced Blog $39/mo

Best option if you will be migrating a large blog, or need to use advanced plugins/SEO

In addition to paying a monthly subscription to Showit, you can expect to pay some additional costs associated with having a website. This includes:

Your domain name

Which you may already have, especially if you already have a website

Investments paid to a website designer

If you choose to have a site custom designed, or semi-customized (more on this in a bit!)

Purchasing a Showit template

If you choose to go the DIY or semi-customization route (more on this in a bit!)

Subscriptions to other platforms that integrate with your website

Like email marketing software, a booking calendar, customer relationship management (CRM), and having a shop add-on, etc. These things aren’t required to have a website, but can add to its functionality and convenience.

Getting a Custom
Showit Website

Hiring a website designer to create a custom-tailored site allows you to create your vision from scratch! It is also the option that often requires the highest level of investment, in regards to both time and money.

In Showit, I have the creative freedom to start with a blank slate and create something that truly embodies your brand and heart.

Going the DIY Route with a Showit Template

Purchasing a template and customizing it yourself is quickly becoming one of the most popular ways to use Showit! Because Showit is easy to use and offers creative freedom, savvy business owners have created their dream site in less than a week.

The pros of going the DIY route are that the investment is often lower than custom design or semi-customization, since you’re not hiring a designer. And the quick turnaround time - you get to work at your own pace!

You can purchase a Showit template directly from Showit’s store, or from a Showit designer who has a template shop. The investment for a template can range anywhere from $0-$1000+, depending on the features you want. Most design shops offer payment plans.

Best of both worlds: website semi-customization

Semi-customization, or template customization, is a hybrid of custom design and going the diy route.

You choose your template, and hire a design pro to customize it for your brand! The cost of your template and the design fee are typically separate investments.

While Showit is easy to use, some business owners choose to avoid the DIY stress altogether and have someone else do the dirty work for them. Because we’re starting with a template, the customization process is typically quicker and a lower investment than custom design.

Just like with custom design, I still train my clients on how to use Showit so that they feel capable of updating their finished site moving forward.

SHOWIT TEMPLATES FAQ

Wait, how does this whole template thing work again?

Showit templates break the rules in the very best way.

These aren’t the cookie cutter, frustratingly restrictive, hard-to-edit designs you might think of when you hear the words “website template.”

WHERE CAN I BUY A SHOWIT TEMPLATE?

HOW MUCH DO SHOWIT TEMPLATES COST?

HOW WILL I GET MY TEMPLATE INTO MY SHOWIT ACCOUNT?

DO I HAVE TO PURCHASE A SHOWIT SUBSCRIPTION TO GET A TEMPLATE?

DO SHOWIT TEMPLATES WORK WITH OTHER WEBSITE BUILDERs?

I’M HAVING TROUBLE CHOOSING A TEMPLATE - THERE'S SO MANY OPTIONS!

Buying a Showit Template

You can purchase your template from Showit’s store, or a Showit designer’s independent shop. Here's a list of shops I recommend!

Template Cost

Showit templates range in price from $0-$1000+. Typically, higher priced templates look “more like a custom site” and have more features included. All Showit templates are completely customizable, no matter the price. Also, most template shops offer payment plans and instant access.

Importing Your Template

The shop that you purchase your template from will give you further instructions on how to add the template to your account. Typically, you will be given a code called a “Share Key” that you will use to import the template to your Showit Design Library. This is super easy to do!

Your Showit Subscription

You will need a Showit account to access and edit your website template. Technically, you could purchase a template before you choose your Showit plan. Just make sure that you keep your template share key somewhere safe and use it to import the template to your Showit account as soon as possible!

Other Website Builders

Showit templates are only for use with the Showit website builder. While Showit does integrate with WordPress for blogging, a Showit template cannot be used as a WordPress theme.

Tips for Choosing Your Template

This is a problem that I hear about often, so I’ve created a freebie to help you out! Get my free guide, “Find Your Dream Site - How to Choose a Showit Template” to help you overcome the overwhelm.

Email Marketing + Showit

Most popular email marketing platforms (ConvertKit, MailChimp, Flodesk, etc.) integrate with Showit. It’s easy to embed freebie opt-in/signup forms into your website! I’ve even designed custom landing pages in Showit, then added the form.

When someone fills out a form, they will automatically be added to your email list and delivered any freebies, according to the workflows you set up inside your email software.

CRM / Contact Form + Showit

If you use a CRM like Honeybook, Dubsado, or 17Hats, for emailing leads, invoicing, contracts, etc., it’s easy to embed your contact form on your website so that the lead goes straight to your CRM!

Booking Calendar + Showit

It’s easy to link to booking calendars like Acuity or Calendly within your Showit site! This allows people to see your availability and schedule meetings with you without a single email.

Some calendars (like Acuity) also integrate with payment processors (PayPal, Stripe, etc.) so that clients can pay and book your services at the same time.

Donations + Showit

If you are a nonprofit and would like to accept donations through your site, it’s easy to add a PayPal donate button that securely connects to PayPal!

Videos, Podcast Audio + Showit

It’s easy to embed videos from popular platforms like YouTube or Vimeo onto your Showit site. These can be embedded into your website pages, or individual blog posts.

You can embed podcast audio into blog posts as well.

Your Portfolio + Showit

If you’re a photographer who uses a site like Zenfolio, it won’t integrate directly into your Showit site. We can link out to a separate portfolio site, if you’d like.

However, Showit offers so many features for creating an awesome portfolio layout. I recommend transferring your images to Showit and having your portfolio be part of your website!

WordPress Plugins + Showit

Because Showit integrates with WordPress for blogging, you’ll have access to plugins! The amount/type of plugins you can use varies depending on whether you have the Basic Blog (pre-installed plugins) or Advanced Blog Showit (custom plugins) plan.

Some popular plugins that work with Showit include Yoast SEO, Pinterest, and Pretty Links.

E-Commerce Shops + Showit

You may see Showit templates that include shop page layouts! It’s possible to add a small shop to your Showit account, but you have to integrate with an e-commerce platform for the shop to actually function. This is a more complicated topic, so I’ve created a section in this guide just for it.

SHOP / E-COMMERCE INTEGRATIONS

Adding a Shop to Your Showit Website

showit + shopify

showit + thrivecart

SHOWIT + PAYPAL

It’s become popular for service-based creatives to also have shops on their website, especially with the passive income movement. With this in mind, Showit designers have been creating custom designs and templates with shop page designs included.

But...there’s a catch: Showit doesn’t come with e-commerce functionality! So how
do these shops work?

Showit shop page designs provide a beautiful, easy to edit layout for your shop.
A separate e-commerce platform must be integrated to make the shop actually
function (so people can actually purchase things from you!).

Check out these popular e-commerce options that work well with Showit:

Showit shop page designs provide a beautiful, easy to edit layout for your shop. A separate e-commerce platform must be integrated to make the shop actually function (so people can actually purchase things from you!).

Check out these popular e-commerce options that work well with Showit:

Showit + Shopify

Shopify lite is best if you have a small catalog of products - especially if they are physical products that need to be shipped or have product variations. It costs $9/mo, and allows you to add buy buttons and a cart with checkout to your Showit site. You can also embed product listings from Shopify, or these can be designed in Showit.

SHOWIT + SHOPIFY LITE

back to start

If you offer services, need a blog, and want to have a larger shop - it might be best to have two separate websites! Your Showit site can be designed to showcase your services, with a “Shop” option in the navigation bar that links to a separate shop built on Shopify.

Both the Showit site and Shopify store can be designed similarly so that visitors have a seamless experience and it doesn’t feel like they are going between two sites!

A Basic Shopify Plan is $29/mo.

SHOWIT + SHOPIFY

Showit + Thrivecart

Thrivecart is a cart software that allows you to create a separate cart page for each product you sell. It also allows you to have an affiliate program. It’s often used for selling digital goods like templates, ebooks, courses, and memberships. Currently, Thrivecart offers lifetime access for a one-time payment of $495.

When using Thrivecart, the shop is designed in Showit, and buttons link to the cart page for a specific product.

back to start

Showit + PayPal Buy Buttons

Similar to using Shopify lite, PayPal offers buy buttons that can be added to your Showit site. I recommend using this option only if you only have a small number of products, with no or few variations. They also offer a donate button for nonprofits.

When using PayPal buy buttons, the shop is designed in Showit, and the buy buttons link to PayPal checkout.

If you choose a Showit plan that includes a blog, all of your blog content will actually be housed on WordPress! This means for things like blog posts, managing blog comments, and adding WordPress plugins to your site, you will need to log into your WordPress admin.

Showit’s team will take care of setting up your WordPress admin account for you, whether you purchase a template and DIY or work with a designer.

Blogging Power, Without the Hard to Edit Site

SHOWIT + WORDPRESS

WordPress is an industry leader for blogging. By allowing you to easily design and edit your site on Showit, but also integrating with WordPress for your blog content, Showit is giving you the best of both worlds!

Every aspect of the “look” of your blog pages and posts is still designed in Showit, so you don’t have to worry about your blog being hard to edit!

One thing that sets Showit apart from other website builders (besides their awesome platform) is that they have support that truly cares.

Showit Support Team

The Amazing

It’s a small company, and they make it so easy to get individualized attention when you need help. You can instant message with a member of the support team right inside your Showit account!
