If you’re reading this, you probably have one question in mind: “Why is website design so expensive?!” I totally understand – before I became a professional web designer, I had the same question. But if you’ll stick with me, I’ll explain why custom web design is an investment, and not just “another expense.”
Before we dive in, I do want to clarify that this article is focused on custom web design, not website templates or DIY design.
Your website should work for you, not just sit there and look pretty. Here are a few ways that a custom site can help you work smarter, not harder:
Don’t worry, a website can be strategic, while still being authentic and beautiful. Also, remember that a website is not a magical solution to all of your business’ problems. A website is a tool that must be used well. There is effort required on your part to get traffic to your site.
Speaking of getting traffic to your site, having your site built on a quality platform will allow you to provide a better experience for people who visit it. Plus, updating the content of your site will be easier for you.
Like I mentioned earlier, I build custom sites using Showit. My clients pay for a Showit plan, which is separate from my designer fee. I typically recommend the Showit + Basic Blog plan, which is $29/mo. In my opinion, this rate is more than worth it when you consider the features that you are getting access to.
In my early days as a designer, I built sites on several different platforms that cost anywhere from $8-$17/mo. There really is a difference between what these platforms offer and what a $29/mo platform offers.
For example, some cheaper website builders require you to use generic templates with little customization options. This is easier, but not always best in terms of the quality of your site. Some also restrict how much can be done for your site’s SEO (Search Engine Optimization, which will impact how people find you on site’s like Google).
After trying Showit, I was so impressed that I switched to building sites on it (and haven’t looked back!). Showit allows me to create a website from scratch without coding and no restrictions on the design. I can add in your brand colors, logo, and create the layout you’re dreaming of. Showit integrates with WordPress for blogging, so that your easy-to-edit site is still powerful and incorporates top-notch SEO tools to help you get found.
Most web designers who charge premium prices are only working with a few clients at a time. This allows you to receive the individualized attention you deserve. When you invest in custom design, you are receiving a personalized experience where the specific needs of your business can be met.
