Empowerment Coach Website for Dr. Zonzie McLaurin

Dr. Zonzie McLaurin and I recently worked together to turn a Showit template into the website of her dreams! Dr. Z has been an educator in the motivation and leadership space for more than 25 years. As she prepares for retirement, she is starting her next adventure as an empowerment coach. It was my honor to help her turn all of her ideas into a gorgeous, strategic website! Dr. Z is an encourager by nature, and she inspires me to be a better version of myself – I know you’ll love getting to know her through her website, too!

The Goals for this Empowerment Coach Website

Dr. Z came into the world of entrepreneurship with a lot of connections and experience due to her professional career in education. She’s already been building her brand as well. She has existing audiences that connect with her through her podcast and presence on social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook. My goal for this project was to help her nurture and convert those connections better by creating an online home – a website – that she can guide people to.

In addition to her free content, Dr. Z will be offering coaching services and empowerment resources. She also welcomes opportunities to collaborate with other business owners through speaking engagements and podcast interviews. It’s important that her website showcases all of these aspects of her business well.

Creating Dr. Zonzie’s Visual Brand Identity

Before I start any website, I like to decide on branding first. Since Dr. Z already had a logo she loved, I focused on her brand fonts and colors. Dr. Z’s responses to her brand workbook allowed me to better understand her vision for her business, personal style, and the messaging that she wants to communicate to her audience.

I used all of this information to come up with her brand color palette and fonts. Dr. Z loves warm neutrals, especially Mediterranean tones. She wanted something elegant and polished, but also inviting. Check out her mood board!

Dr. Zonzie’s Showit Template Customization

For Dr. Z’s website, we customized a Showit template instead of starting for scratch (aka custom design).

How Template Customization Works

I design websites using the Showit website builder. I love using the Showit because it allows for creative freedom, and is easy for my clients to edit moving forward!

Showit templates are a great option for newer business owners with smaller budgets, or anyone who wants to launch a website quickly! Even if you have a larger budget, I usually recommend not spending thousands on your first-ever website for your business, because things will change so much in those first few years. So I think it’s wise that Dr. Z went the template route!

Showit is easy to learn, so some people choose to purchase a template and customize it themselves. However, having a designer customize the template for you is convienient and having a designer’s eye on the site is valuable, so that’s why my template customization services exist!

Dr. Z chose The Verona Showit template from fellow designer Gillian Sarah’s template shop, with The Lottie Podcast Page (also from Gillian) added on. Once I used Dr. Zonzie’s new branding and content to customize the template, we came up with a website that’s just as unique as her!

I added sections that weren’t originally in the template, and used larger font sizes and lots of “breathing room” around each section for a clean, bold look. Her content and the website layout strategically guide visitors through all that she has to offer.
